Wine Tasting Parties for Fall

With the harvest of grapes in full swing in Northern California, it is a great time to celebrate and host a wine tasting party in your home, no matter where you live!  Fall lends itself beautifully to wine tasting party decorations, with leaves of every color in abundance.  Whether you are an official sommelier or just the occasional enjoyer of wine, wine tasting parties are a fun way to hang out with friends and family.  Here’s everything you need for a successful party at home:

  1.  A great wine rack to keep your selection growing and stored safely.   This beautiful 16 Bottle Wine Cabinet with Stemware Rack is one of my favorites, brand new with a lovely dark espresso finish.  It is nice because it functions both as wine rack and as a serving table or bar.  The built in wine glass racks keep everything right where you need it.
  2. Covers for the bottles – I love the look of burlap with a number painted on the bottle for blind tastings, but back in the day I used to use slim paper bags and those work fine (the kind you get at the store when you purchase the wine).
  3. Food!  I always like to have a cheese plate, as it is an obvious companion for wine, but also some cured meats, salami are nice, as well as fruit to cleanse the palette.  If you will be having your guests over close to dinner time, throw in a few appetizers as well (either home made or frozen varieties – no one will know the difference!)
  4. Wine, Wine Wine!  Of course, don’t forget the wine!  Aim for about 1/2-3/4 of a bottle per person, and really you get to choose which kind.  Maybe you are just in the mood for light white wines, or perhaps just reds, or even a mixture of both.  You can get even more specific, say with a selection of old vine zins for everyone to taste, that way you can really home in on the differences.

Get Ready for the Holidays with the Right Wine Rack!

Holiday parties are approaching rapidly!  Do you have what it takes to be a great hostess?  If you are like me, you like to serve a variety of wines at your parties.  One great way to do this on a budget is to take advantage of those penny wine sales at beverage outlets.  A few times a year you can get a deal on wine with buy one, pay a penny for the next.  So as the holidays approach, when you get that flyer in the mail, run out and get as much wine as you need and can afford, then it bring it home and store it in your wine storage rack.

One of my favorite, most affordable and basic wine racks out there right now is the Kingston Modular 4-Trays Wine Rack.  There are several styles available and they are stackable and work side by side, each with the same measurements so you can mix and match styles or simply stick with the same one.  This allows you to add more bottle capacity as time goes on.  The dark espresso finish works well with most of the current range of home decor styles, and the top features a lip, giving you a nice place to serve from or to store wine openers and accessories.  The other Kingston racks available include a diagonal style rack which has a fun restaurant or wine boutique look and a simple slotted style.  This storage rack can be used in the pantry or kitchen, or even left out on the floor of the dining room for easy access.  Are you planning on entertaining for the holidays?  Do you have your menus and drink plans all laid out yet?  With the right wine rack, you can get a head start on collecting wines for your holiday parties and most of all get them at the best prices!
